Simon aims for London Olympics
Belgian triathlonathlete – and regular endurance Junkie model – Simon De Cuyper is on an Olympic mission. With a 4th place finish at the Cape Town ITU Sprint Triathlon, Simon is off to an excellent start to what is no doubt the most important season of his career.
“It is going to be all or nothing to grab that Olympic spot”, says Simon. “Up next for me is the Mooloolaba World Cup race in Australia on March 25th and the very important European Championships in Eilat, Israel on April 22nd. A top 8 spot at that race would mean a huge step towards that Olympic spot and a chance to become a true professional athlete with financial support from BLOSO (the Belgian Flemish sports agency) or Defence.”
Simon is currently ranked 83rd on the ITU points list, more or less guaranteeing him a spot on the World Cup circuit. Good results at these races will see Simon score much needed points for the Olympic list where a spot in the top 55 is the goal.
