Bevan Leach

Bio

Bevan was born in Canberra and spent the majority of his childhood involved in various high level sports. During this time, he learned to nurture his swimming abilities and open water strength which included representing Australia at water polo. These skills now see him emerge out of the water in the lead pack and set swim records.

Whilst in his final year at university (he successfully completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) at the University of Sydney), Bevan lost a bet and entered his first triathlon with no idea of what was about to unfold. Within 12 months, he had been selected in the Australian Age Group team for the World Long Course Championships in Nice, France and successfully raced to a bronze medal.

Since then Bevan has gone on to race as a professional triathlete in North and South America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. He has been selected in the professional Australian teams from 2002 to 2005 for World Championships. He has qualified twice (2005, 2007) and raced once (2005) as a professional in the Hawaiian Ironman.

With the birth of his daughter Frankie in 2009, Bevan stopped racing in the professional division after placing 20th overall at Ironman New Zealand, but still has some unfinished business with triathlon. He is now focusing on winning a World Hawaiian Ironman Age Group Championship (and overall amateur) as well as state, national, and world titles over various distances.
